摘 要性别差异在高中英语教学中有着显著的表现,它是英语教学中不可忽视的一个变量。本文主要从生理因素、学习动机、学习观念这三个主要的内部因素讨论性别差异。采用文献分析法、调查问卷等研究方法,以科学的态度,着重从外语教育心理学和性别差异教育心理学角度,对周口市第一高级中学男女生英语成绩作了比较,结果显示:在英语知识类型的掌握上,女生比男生更具有优势。通过分析男女生英语学习的差异,本文既提出了“因性施教”的教学理念,也针对如何利用性别差异优势和如何克服缺点给出了建议。本课题的研究不仅具有普遍的现实意义,也对外语教育心理学和中学英语教育教学论上有一定的指导作用。关键词:性别差异;英语研究;因“性”施教8148
Abstract
There exists a remarkable representation for gender difference in the process of English teaching, which is an assignable variable quality. This paper discusses the physiological character, the motivation and personal perception of English Learning. It adopts the literature analysis method and questionnaires, which basing on the scientific and rigorous attitude, analyzing on gender difference for English learners in the senior high school from the perspective of educational psychology and educational psychology. This paper makes a comparison referring to the English marks. By mastering situation analysis to knowledge types of English, the females have more obvious advantages than the males in English learning. According to the gender differences, the paper gives some suggestions on how to help students overcome the disadvantages and make full use of the advantages for educators. The research of the subject not only has the realistic meanings but also has the value for the development of the English teaching for the senior high school.

On Gender Difference for English Learners in Senior High School
I. Introduction
Over the last few decades, a remarkably prominent shift has been taken place in the research field of second language or foreign language teaching and learning, with less emphasis on teachers and teaching but more emphasis on learners and learning. Learning a second language or foreign language is a time-consuming process, during which a number of affective variables concerning learners’ inpidual differences, such as attitude, orientations, anxiety and motivation, have been considered to be as important as language aptitude for predicting the second language or foreign language achievement. Attention has been paid to the effect of the gender difference, whatever is at home or abroad.
In 1920s, Thorndike, American psychologist, made a conclusion by his experiment that the females are superior to males in linguistic expression and short-term memory while the males are superior to the females in space perception, the ability of the analysis and comprehension and so on. In 1970s, Maccoby and Jacklin, who worked as professors in Standford University, depicted that the females have an advantage on language development in their book. In 1994, the American linguist Ellis explicitly pointed out in his book The Study of Second Language Acquisition that inpidual difference is the assignable factor to influence the language learners. By comparison: the research of the gender difference started rather late in China. This is partly due to the misunderstanding of some Chinese researchers who take it for granted that the gender difference’s effect upon L2/FL learning is self-evident and is not worth studying, resulting in not knowing about the complex mechanism of how the gender difference plays its role in L2/FL learning. In 1997, Li Hongyu and his partners found that the females have much higher motivation and emulation than males in terms of English studying. In 1997, the Chinese people made a survey, which included 2000 students or so, that pointed out the females is always ahead of the males in the average marks of Chinese and English, on the contrary, the males is ahead of the females in the average marks of math and physics. Although the gender difference has got a wild development, the gender difference for English learners in senior high school still exists the developing room. So it is worthwhile to study on the gender difference for English learners in senior high school in Chinese context.
