The Using of Games in Primary English Teaching The Using of Games in Primary English Teaching Chapter one Introduction With the development of social life and globalization of economy, English has become increasingly important in china since 21st century. Almost everyone, among staffs working in Ministry of Education in china to parents having children who study in primary school, has a deeper understanding on primary English courses, thus improving the status of English course in all the primary school courses. We have achieved a great improvement in expanding the scale of English teaching, and there is a huge achievement we have got in basic education and English teaching method, however, students, who are natured by traditional teaching methods, cannot meet the requirement of our nation’s economic instruction and social development. Therefore, we have a fundamental reform in English education areas. In that reform, we were trying to change the situation that pay too much attention to vocabulary and grammar teaching; ignore cultivating students’ ability to use English practically. We were going to emphasize on a new English course that starts from students’ interests and life experience, and going to advocate a new learning style and a task-based teaching method that initiate experience, practice, participation, cooperation and communication. The New English Curriculum Standards for Elementary School, performed in 2012, pointed that the main purpose of primary English learning is to arouse students’ interests in English. Therefore, how to direct a more effective and interesting class has become an important standard to measure the teaching level of teachers. In this condition, the game teaching method, which combines enjoyment and enrichment, has been paid attentions to by increasing numbers of educators. Chapter two literature review There are many teaching methods existed in the world. However, there is not one high-point teaching method that is suitable for learners of all levels. As educators, we should not totally affirm or deny one teaching method, but use different teaching methods according to different teaching contents. Game teaching method is one scientific teaching method according with our national situations. In western society, game teaching method is used as a way to educate people, especially infant. Since then, lots of philosophers, ideologist thinkers and educators began to connect games and children’ interests together. Plato is one who emphasizes the significance of games in children education. He thinks that games are not only about playing or entertainment, but also should be combined with moral education. And Socrates initiated “elicitation teaching theory”. Comenius said in his work Magna Didactics that teachers should treat their students kindly and jolly. At the same time, Locke expressed his idea in Some Thoughts Concerning Education that purses knowledge in a way that as funny as pursing entertainment. The game teaching methods, appeared in ancient and modern times, has not formed a theoretical system, because of the limitation of social and educational development.. Fredrich Froebel is the first educator to help infant education form a theorization and systematization, and also the first expert to talk about games, and also the first person who combines games and teaching together.
