1. Introduction
A Dream of Red Mansions was a great novel written by Cao Xueqin in 18th century. It presents the whole traditional Chinese society in Qing dynasty incisively and vividly to the readers. The book has highly ideological content and artistic greatness which attract all kinds of readers from all over the world. There is no doubt that A Dream of Red Mansions is a quintessence of Chinese literary treasure.
Translation of address forms in china seems particularly difficult and complex in A Dream of Red Mansions. Why? Sun Weiqun held that “characters appeared in the novel was more than hundreds of people, interpersonal relationship, especially the kinship relationship is very complicated. Specifically, from the vertical, the center of the author's description-- Jia Fu, is a family of four generations, from the word "water" "into the" grass "word generation, involving five generation kinship; From lateral view, the history of Shi ,Wang and Xue mansion has crisscrossed with Jia's home and consanguinity as well as affinity in A Dream of Red Mansions.”(孙为群,2001:115-116).So, it is very meaningful to study the kinship address systems in A Dream of Red Mansions which could represent the kinship address system in ancient time. However, comparing those of English, Chinese address system is much more complex and different, thus making it difficult to translate equivalently. 源'自:751]'论-文'网"]www.751com.cn
