However, the gender discrimination still exists in Chinese language, and Chinese society has not been attached enough attention to it. Besides, the study of gender discrimination in Chinese language has not yet been carried out deeply. At present, many scholars are concerned about their Chinese language studies in the aspects of personal pronouns, addresses, proverbs and so on. This paper will combine with the characteristics of the times, make some innovation in the field of linguistics, and try to study the gender discrimination and its causes in Chinese Weibo (microblogs).
1.2 Introduction of Microblog
Microblogs originated in the United States, and its pioneer is Twitter. In 2007, the concept of microblog was introduced into China. In August, 2009, Sina launched Sina microblog. In recent years, due to the development of Internet technology, blogs, microblogs and other fashionable words have achieved great popularity among citizens. And they have formed flows of internet torrent to shock and update people’s ideas. Based on electronic computer and dependent on internet, microblogs provide an enormous platform for people to express inpiduality and emotion and share information. Therefore, the language formed by it has deepened into every aspect of social life. In the process of the emergence and development of these languages, there is no lack of the discourse that implies the meaning of gender discrimination. The existence of this phenomenon is incongruous with the harmonious society that China is committed to build.
This paper will collect the gender discrimination language among microblog users, analyze it and try to explore its causes according to the current time features, aiming to propose some innovative suggestions or methods to reduce the phenomenon.
