The thesis mainly discusses how the context influences the teaching of English words. Only finding out the links between context and words can we eventually improve the students’ language learning efficiency. Therefore the paper explores the application of context theory in English vocabulary teaching through the following five parts. The first part introduces the reasons why we should apply the context theory in new words teaching. Secondly, it elaborates the definition of context theory and reviews some related researches of the context’s function and application. Then some examples of English vocabulary teaching classes are analyzed comparatively, which is in hope of highlighting the merits and significance of the application of the context theory in vocabulary teaching.
