    Analysis of the Steps of Practice in Primary English Classes -- Based on the Videos of 2013 Zhejiang Primary English Teaching Competition

    Abstract    Classroom practice is one of the basic steps after the presentation of new knowledge. It is also a process that students build up a relationship between what they are learning and what they’ve learned. With the rapid pace of globalization, English becomes an international language in the world. And more and more people try to be equipped with a well communication competence for multiple purpose. However, the traditional teaching method failed to achieve the goal. Therefore, scholars and educators made efforts to improve teaching of the step of practice. With the innovation and development of technology, the step of practice is well design, which brings back the energy and enjoyment in classroom. In order to promote the reform of the primary school English curriculum, national first-rank primary English class competition is held every two years,for the purpose of providing teachers all over the country with the chance for communication.Despite the achievement gained as a result of social and economic development, there still remain significant problems for further improvement. And this paper will analyse the step of practice based on the videos of 2013 Zhejiang primary English teaching competition.47456

    分析英语课堂操练步骤——以浙江省小学英语优质课竞赛视频为例

    摘要英语课堂操练是继新知呈现之后的一个重要步骤,也是学生建构新的知识框架并与原有知识建立联系的过程。随着全球化进程的加快,英语逐渐成为一门国际语言。出于各种目的,越来越多的人渴望具备良好的英语交际能力。然而传统的教学手段已经无法满足如今人们对英语学习的目标。因此教育界正致力于改善英语课堂操练以满足人们的需求。随着科技的创新和发展,英语课堂操练环节有了很大的改观,也让英语课堂焕然一新。同时,为了推进英语课程改革的进程,也为了给全国各地的优秀教师创造一个相互借鉴和交流的平台,我国每两年举办一次全国优质课竞赛。随着社会和经济的发展,英语课堂教学虽已取得一些成就,但操练环节仍存在一些缺陷与不足,课堂操练发展任重而道远。本篇论文将基于2013年浙江省小学英语优质课评比视频重点分析英语课堂操练环节。

    1. Introduction 

    1.1 Background information

        1.1.1 Development of the step of practice in English class teaching

        Foreign language teaching in schools has enjoyed a long history in China.  In today’s China, with the development of economy and technology, the New Curriculum has being in an advanced level. As the New Curriculum reform goes deeper, advanced educational concepts has been wildly spread under the New Curriculum Standard. More and more primary school teachers realize the great importance of putting the conception into practice. Meanwhile, how to make English teaching more effective has drawn a lot of attention of educators and lingusticians at home and abroad. And since 2000, there’s a firm and urgent call from government for quality-education, as well as new requirements for English teaching in classroom. As we all know, every step of classroom teaching is of great importance. And my paper is mainly about the step of practice during English teaching in the classes. In the early years of English classroom teaching, teachers paid little attention to the form of language practice. At that time, the rote recalling and cramming method of teaching played a main role in the classes ignoring students’ physical and mental features. Students did a lot of mechanical practice without knowing the entire meaning. As the raising statue of English in China, there are new requirements for English learning. English becomes a tool of communication rather than just a course in school. However, the traditional practicing method failed to reach the today’s goal. Scholars are making efforts to make progress. Nowadays, they’ve gain a great achievement on classroom teaching. Teachers design the practicing part in a social context closing to students’ real life as much as possible, and also use the multimedia to help understanding
