Among these activities, games are the one used the most widely. It is agreed by many scholars (Lin Changfeng, Liu Yan, Lu Ziwen) that games in the language classroom have been regarded as a better way to cultivate children’s interest and motivate them to work hard in learning English. In children’s native language, they like playing games and this is a similar experience for children to be recommended to studies in a foreign language.
1.2 Problems Exist in Games in Primary English Teaching
Although games are considered by quite a lot of people as a better way for teaching children, there are also some problems existing during the process of games in class. According to some literature reviews and resources, games are mainly used in junior grades in primary school. For senior grades, little games are involved. Children in different period vary in their response towards the games used by teachers and their acceptance to the games. The major problem is that because of the lack of self-control and learning habits, children of junior grades are difficult to be controlled once the game starting. Usually teachers have to waste much time in controlling the principle, which shortens children’s time in learning the language. Another problem is that sometimes teachers’ description to the games is hard to understand, so the process of games is not so smooth. What’s more, the choices of games are so limited that children may gradually lose their interest in English learning. Thus, teachers’ creativity in games should be advanced.
Such problems mentioned above are the situation that we are facing nowadays, which should be figured out as soon as possible.
