The prosperity of sociolinguistics and pragmatics prompt the studies of language to concentrate on the application and linguistic behaviors of language instead of its lexical forms. Sociolinguists believe language is related to human society intimately because it is created by human beings. Therefore, they attach great importance to the communicative function of language and the relationship between language and culture. Besides, pragmatics stretches the study of language to a higher level. It studies how the speaker of a language using his language to effect successful communication.
