Chapter One Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Moonlight over the Lotus Pond written by the famous writer Zhu Ziqing has caught lots of domestic and overseas scholars’ attention. And because of the great popularity of the prose, there are many relevant researches on the English translations of this prose.
Some studies emphasize on the aesthetic value, (Gan Wenping 2002; Gou Miao 2008; Wang Tingting 2014); some studies focus on the fuzzy beauty, (Zhou Jinzhen 2006; Han Zhengshun&Wang Jian 2008; Liu Jie&Yu Xueyong 2010); besides, Chen Qiaoqiao(2009) wrote the paper on thematic organizations and cohesive devices in Chinese-English translation; Mian Ma(2012) did a study from the perspective of reader-response; Li Zhi(1998) explored the artistic conception and beauty of the source text in Zhu Chunshen’s translation while Li Yu(2009) applied “stylistic system” proposed by Liu Miqin into the study, using Moonlight over the Lotus Pond as the study text.
